Luis López is an award-winning, bilingual audio producer from Mexico.
Luis’s work involves scripting and script editing; sound editing, designing, and mixing; music composition; as well as voiceover narration and voice acting in both fiction and non-fiction work. He specializes in creating an immersive sound designs for audio-first storytelling.
About me:
Luis has worked as a freelance professional audio producer since 2020. For Esto No Es Radio (Guadalajara, Mexico) he worked on their flagship narrative podcast, as well as on other titles such as CUIR: Historias Disidentes (a Spanish-language immersive narrative podcast focused on LGBTQ+ stories). For Studio Ochenta (Paris, France), he was Lead Sound Designer on several fiction shows in English and Spanish such as La Cabina Telefónica (USA-Colombia), Manual para ser Juan Helsing (LatAm), Nos Vemos Después (Argentina), and El Silencio de Tina Golarte (Colombia).

La Cabina Telefónica
La Cabina Telefónica is a Spotify Original fiction podcast created by Studio Ochenta, winner of the 2024 Ondas Award (Spain) for Best Podcast in a Foreign Language. It follows the story of Matty Cardona (played by Fanny Lu), a Colombian immigrant who lives in Queens, New York, where she owns and operates a phone booth business with her daughter Rossy (played by Isabella Gómez). Luis was the Lead Sound Designer for this show, for which he created the immersive sound setting (the storefront and individual booths where every episode takes place). He also led a team of four sound designers who worked on different episodes (each one in a different country) and delivered a homogeneous soundscape for the show’s final mix. Luis also created the different versions of the main theme, heard at the end of each episode.
Manual para ser Juan Helsing
Manual para ser Juan Helsing is a Spanish-language podcast, created by Studio Ochenta, about the many monsters, phantoms, and uncanny creatures of Latin American folklore. The story follows Juan Muñoz, a Mexican anthropologist, who travels to different Latin American countries to confront, and ultimately attempt to understand, the region’s different legendary monsters, from Puerto Rico’s Chupacabras to Argentina’s Lobisón. Juan befriends a content creator, Simona Ojeda, to whom he decides to pass his knowledge, and in each episode, he tells the story of a different monster. Luis was the Lead Sound Designer for this show, and was in charge of creating the show’s eerie soundscapes, as well as distorting the actors’ voices to make them fit their monstrous characters. He also composed multiple pieces of incidental music, as well as specific themes for different episodes.
Esto No Es Radio: El cuerpo habla junto con la voz
El cuerpo habla junto con la voz is an episode of Esto No Es Radio, a narrative, scripted non-fiction podcast created and produced by the studio of the same name in Guadalajara, Mexico. Luis was a Lead Producer for the studio and the show, working on sound design and mixing, as well as script editing. For this episode, he also pitched the story, interviewed the guest, and wrote the script, in addition to the post-production work. In this episode, a singer reminisces on his childhood years as an operatic sensation, winning a national TV contest in Mexico and a children’s classical music contest in New York, as well as performing a healthy schedule of concerts as a soloist with choirs and orchestras…that is, until puberty arrived, and he lost the voice that made him famous. He then faced a harsh question: could he still be a singer, or was it all over?
Lingokids: Growin’ Up!
Growin’ Up! is a podcast by Lingokids, with production work by Studio Ochenta, aimed at teaching children about the many different jobs they could have when they’re older: a meteorologist, a brain surgeon, a comedian, even an astronaut! Each episode focuses on a different job, starting with an exploration of its history, and leading to an interview with a famous person in that profession, all while following two fictional characters as they travel through time and space to learn more. Luis was Lead Sound Designer for a season of the show, and also co-scripted and co-produced several episodes. This episode is about becoming a gymnast, and includes an interview with Team USA Olympic Gold Medalist Hezly Rivera. For this episode, Luis interviewed Hezly, wrote and co-edited the script, and worked on sound editing and mixing the uniquely child-friendly soundscapes and music beds for the show.
